‘Scream’ Lee Won-wook Urges Suspension of Protest Against Candidacy
“Fight Against Forces Denying History and Opposing People's Livelihood”
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, expressed suspicion regarding hardline supporters protesting near the home of party member Lee Won-wook against his candidacy for floor leader, saying, "I wonder if they are really our supporters or Democratic Party members."
On the same day, Lee wrote on Facebook, "It is common sense that if those who claim to support Lee Jae-myung engage in such actions, it only makes Lee Jae-myung's position more difficult."
The hardline supporters, classified as anti-Lee Jae-myung faction, have criticized Lee Won-wook for his stance on Lee's legal risks. As party opinion worsened toward them, Lee himself stepped in to stop the protests.
Lee said, "If you use insults, humiliation, and aggressive behavior just because of differing opinions, it only builds hostility," adding, "If you are a Democratic Party member or a supporter of Lee Jae-myung, please stop immediately and use that energy to fight against forces denying history and opposing the people's livelihood." He continued, "Please stop attacking, insulting, and oppressing those who are on our side and fighting together. If you are a comrade of Lee Jae-myung and a party member who loves the Democratic Party, you should rather restrain such behavior."
He stated, "I am responsible for the Democratic Party, and I have the duty to overcome divisive actions and unite our strength to win the general election," urging, "If you are a Democratic Party member or a supporter of Lee Jae-myung, please look bigger, broader, and farther, and strive to minimize conflicts and divisions."
