Violation of Narcotics Control Act
Decision on Warrant Issuance to be Made on the 25th
Nam Mo (32), the eldest son of former Gyeonggi Province Governor Nam Kyung-pil, who was arrested on charges of methamphetamine use, appeared in court on the 25th for a warrant hearing.
The Suwon District Court held a warrant hearing for Nam, who is accused of violating the Narcotics Control Act. The decision on whether to issue the warrant is expected to be made within the day.
After leaving the Yongin Dongbu Police Station, Nam did not respond to reporters' questions such as "Do you admit to the charges?", "Where did you get the methamphetamine?", and "Do you have any comments for your family, including your father?" before boarding the transport vehicle headed to the Suwon District Court.
Nam is suspected of having used methamphetamine once at an apartment in Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi Province on the 23rd. His family, who were at the residence at the time, reported to the police. Former Governor Nam was reportedly not present.
Nam was arrested on the spot by the police and was in a state of intoxication to the extent that normal communication was impossible. A rapid drug test conducted on a syringe believed to have been used for drug administration detected methamphetamine.
In 2017, Nam was also indicted and detained on charges of multiple methamphetamine uses and marijuana smoking, for which he was sentenced to three years in prison with a four-year probation period.
