Launch of the "My Location National Point Number" Service
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will provide a service to check the 'My Location National Grid Reference Number' using smartphones, enabling accurate reporting of accident locations in emergencies such as getting lost in mountains or coastal areas.
The National Grid Reference Number is a unique number assigned to each point by dividing the entire national territory into 10-meter intervals both horizontally and vertically. Currently, the government installs National Grid Reference Number plates in some areas such as mountains and only discloses where these plates are located. As a result, it has been difficult to report exact locations during emergencies. From now on, the National Grid Reference Number of the current location can be directly checked through the Mobile Address Information website (Road Name Address Search System).
Additionally, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety plans to continue expanding the installation of National Grid Reference Number plates itself in collaboration with the Fire Agency, Korea Forest Service, and local governments.
Choi Hoon, Director of the Local Autonomy and Balanced Development Office at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, said, “Various address information is a core national infrastructure,” and added, “We will continue to strive to provide useful and diverse address information to make the public more convenient and safe, and will also expand cooperation with the private sector.”
