Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) will conduct a large-scale spring cleaning together with residents on the 27th.
Welcoming the new spring, residents, the district office, public institutions, and private organizations will unite in a joint public-private effort to remove the accumulated grime from winter by carrying out extensive cleaning throughout the entire area.
The spring cleaning event will begin at 2 p.m. on the 27th at the plazas in front of Eungam Station and Gupabal Station. About 100 residents will participate, focusing on cleaning key spring spots such as Bulkwangcheon and the hiking trails in Jingwan Neighborhood Park.
Ahead of the festival "Spring of Eunpyeong" starting on April 2 at Bulkwangcheon, trash accumulated on the streambed and litter discarded on nearby roads and walking paths will be cleaned. To prevent flood damage, fallen leaves, cigarette butts, and other debris entering rainwater drains near Bulkwangcheon will also be maintained.
On major arterial roads such as Eunpyeong-ro and Yeonseo-ro, 16 large cleaning vehicles including water trucks, dust suction vehicles, and road surface cleaning trucks will be deployed for environmental maintenance. Across an 88km round-trip section, activities will include fine dust removal, water cleaning, roadside trash collection, and washing of trash bins and food waste containers. Facilities contaminated by vehicle exhaust and winter de-icing agents such as bridges, tunnels, soundproof walls, and protective fences will undergo high-pressure water spraying, drain cleaning, and repainting.
Back roads near subway stations with high foot traffic will be intensively cleaned. Unauthorized dumping that harms the urban landscape will be collected en masse, and multi-use facility areas such as bicycle racks and bus stops will be thoroughly maintained. Community leaders from 16 neighborhoods, women's associations, senior volunteer groups, local organizations, and general residents will collect trash accumulated in vulnerable areas such as alleys and back roads.
Promotional activities will be conducted targeting residents and shops near the areas undergoing major cleaning such as Bulkwangcheon. Campaigns will include ▲Reducing household waste with the "100g less per household per day" initiative ▲Reducing single-use items ▲Signing up for wind and flood insurance ▲Installing flood prevention facilities.
A campaign to prevent wildfires, which are prone to occur due to dry spring weather and wind, will also be held. A promotional drone will be flown over the Jingwan Neighborhood Park area for hikers and nearby residents to see, and flyers and other promotional materials will be distributed.
Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “I hope many residents actively participate in the spring cleaning by cleaning in front of their homes and stores to create a pleasant urban environment. We will continue to work on establishing a culture of voluntary cleaning by residents through initiatives such as operating seasonal cleaning days throughout the year.”
