3 Consecutive Goals Against Colombia... 36th A-Match Goal
Joint 3rd All-Time Top Scorer Among Male Players in A-Matches

Son Heung-min (Tottenham), the 'longest-serving captain' of the South Korean national football team, scored the first goal under coach J?rgen Klinsmann.

On the 24th, Son Heung-min scored the opening goal just 10 minutes after kickoff in the friendly match between South Korea and Colombia held at Ulsan Munsu Football Stadium. This friendly match was the debut game for German coach J?rgen Klinsmann, who took charge of the national team last month.

Starting not in his usual left flank position but in the central attacking midfield, supporting Cho Gue-sung (Jeonbuk), Son Heung-min seized the ball after a Colombian passing error in the 10th minute of the first half and fired a sharp curling left-footed shot from outside the penalty box to shake the net.

In his 109th A-match, Son Heung-min scored his 36th goal. Wearing the captain's armband under coach Klinsmann following former coach Paulo Bento, he fulfilled his pledge made at the pre-match press conference the day before by leading by example and activating his scoring form.

Son Heung-min has served as captain for 4 years and 7 months, making him the longest-serving captain in the history of the national team. Additionally, with this goal, he tied with Park Yi-cheon for third place in all-time top scorers among South Korean male players in A-matches. The top scorers in this category are former national team coach Cha Bum-kun (58 goals, 55 goals according to FIFA) and Hwang Sun-hong, coach of the under-23 (U-23) national team (50 goals).

Son Heung-min also demonstrated his status as a 'nemesis' by scoring in three consecutive matches against Colombia. South Korea recently won both matches against Colombia with a score of 2-1, and Son Heung-min was responsible for three of South Korea's four goals in those two games. In November 2017, he led South Korea to victory by scoring multiple goals in a friendly match held in Suwon, and in March 2019, he scored a goal in another friendly match held in Seoul.
