Creating a Walkable City with Eco-Friendly Trails

Walking Event on Muan Trail Scheduled for May 13

Kim San, the governor of Muan County, has established an action plan to create a "walkable city - Muan-style walkable city" and has begun full-scale implementation.


Governor Kim San announced through his New Year's address and the county government report meetings held in towns and townships that he will create a walkable city, "Walkable City Muan," by developing walking trails, parks, and resting areas throughout daily life.

In this regard, on the 20th, a project action plan meeting for Walkable City Muan was held with the attendance of all heads of departments, divisions, and townships, where a total of 28 action tasks under 3 strategies were identified.


The Muan-style Walkable City project plans to focus on creating regionally specialized eco-friendly walking trails, nature-scenic walking trails, and trails that improve accessibility for residents in daily life, as well as fostering a county-wide pedestrian culture.


The main action plans identified at this Walkable City Muan project action plan meeting include △ creating distinctive walking trails for each town and township △ nightscape lighting project at Hoisan Baekryeonji △ creating safe and pleasant walking trails free from sanitary pests △ Walkable City Muan, Safe Muan △ Green Steps Ssudam Running (plogging, a newly coined term meaning picking up trash while running) promotion △ win-win natural healing walking clubs, among 28 tasks in total.

In relation to this, on May 13, a "Walkable City Muan Proclamation Ceremony and the 1st Muan Walking Trail Walking Competition" will be held around Namak Bicycle Park and the Waterfront Park area, where the promotion of Walkable City Muan will be officially declared both domestically and internationally in front of gathered residents.


Governor Kim San stated, "Due to population decline and aging, rural areas are gradually becoming older and losing vitality," adding, "The Muan-style Walkable City project, which enhances eco-friendliness and accessibility, will provide residents with a healthy and vibrant life while greatly contributing to improving Muan’s sustainable urban image amid crises such as climate change," expressing his strong will for active implementation.
