Busan Maritime Affairs Office and BPA Jointly Inspect Busan New Port Hinterland Complex During Thawing Season

On the 23rd, the Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office and Busan Port Authority (BPA) conducted a joint safety inspection targeting three tenant companies in the Busan New Port hinterland complex during the thawing season.

The joint safety inspection involved port safety inspectors from the Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, port safety inspection personnel from BPA, and managers and staff from the three tenant companies in the hinterland complex.

The inspection focused on ▲various safety hazard factors during the thawing season ▲securing the stability of cargo handling equipment such as reach stackers and forklifts ▲unsafe conditions of walkways and cargo stacking within the facilities ▲and compliance with worker safety regulations.

Deficiencies identified during the safety inspection were recommended for improvement, and exemplary cases will be actively promoted to other tenant companies. Various activities will be pursued to raise overall safety awareness throughout the New Port hinterland complex.

The Busan Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office and BPA conduct joint safety inspections targeting tenant companies every second and fourth Thursday of the month to prevent safety accidents in the Busan New Port hinterland complex.

During safety inspections conducted over the past two months targeting 12 tenant companies, more than 40 hazardous and dangerous factors were discovered. These findings were shared at the first quarter hinterland complex safety council to strive for the creation of a safety accident-free hinterland complex.

Yoon Jong-ho, head of the Busan Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, stated, “In preparation for the thawing season, we will closely cooperate and support related organizations to ensure that no safety accidents occur within the New Port hinterland complex through thorough safety inspections and improvements of unsafe risk factors.”

Kang Jun-seok, president of Busan Port Authority, said, “With the support of port safety experts from the Busan office, we will actively share the hazardous and dangerous factors discovered at workplaces during the thawing season with tenant companies and take the lead in eliminating common risk factors inherent in the port hinterland complex.”
