Yeonggwang-gun Promotes 'Yeonggwangsan Eastern Self-Sufficiency System Establishment Project'

Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do is promoting the '2023 Yeonggwang-grown Dongbu Self-sufficiency System Establishment Project' with the goal of creating a 50-hectare Dongbu cultivation complex and producing 50 tons of Dongbu, the main ingredient for Yeonggwang Mosit Leaf Songpyeon.

According to the county on the 23rd, this project was initiated to secure a stable income source for farmers and to revitalize the Yeonggwang Mosit Leaf Songpyeon industry based on the geographical indication system.

Applicants must be farmers within the county, with a minimum application area of 0.1 hectares (300 pyeong). Those wishing to apply can do so at the agricultural consultation offices in the towns and townships or at the Crop Environment Division of the Agricultural Technology Center by the 21st of next month.

An official from the Agricultural Technology Center stated, “We plan to promote direct contract cultivation between rice cake processing companies and farmers, and establish seed production complexes to produce pure Dongbu seeds. We urge many farmers to apply to build a stable supply system for high-quality Dongbu.”

Meanwhile, the Agricultural Technology Center plans to provide Dongbu cultivation technology education and supply high-quality Dongbu seeds free of charge to applicants in May. Dongbu will be purchased through Yeonggwang Nonghyup and distributed to local rice cake processing companies.
