Bachelor's Degrees Can Now Be Earned Through Online Classes Alone at Regular Universities

The online degree program for regular universities, introduced in 2021, is a system that allows students to earn bachelor's, associate, and master's degrees solely through online classes without face-to-face instruction at regular universities, not cyber or other remote universities.

As of the 2023 academic year, a total of 27 master's programs at 22 universities (graduate schools) have been operating as online degree programs with approval from the Ministry of Education.

This is the first time that online bachelor's or associate degree programs have been approved, and these universities will operate online bachelor's and associate degree programs starting from the 2024 academic year.

Dongseo University's Department of Cultural Content Management plans to operate a joint program for foreign students specializing in K-cultural content in collaboration with MRU, a university in Lithuania.

Dong-Eui Science College's Department of Smart Production Process Management plans to design an associate degree curriculum focused on smart factory process operation and management capabilities, targeting domestic workers in production process management.

Suseong University's Department of AI Big Data intends to convert its offline department, which trains domestic AI and big data practical developers, into an online degree program.

Woosong University's SolBridge School of Business plans to establish an online degree program by operating a joint educational curriculum with local universities for Indonesian university students.

Lee Hae-sook, Director of the University Regulation Innovation Bureau at the Ministry of Education, explained, "Through the approved online degree programs, a foundation has been established for domestic and overseas universities to collaborate beyond spatial and temporal constraints starting from the bachelor's degree level," adding, "The AI and intelligent production process online bachelor's degree programs will become a new model for nurturing talent in advanced and new technology fields."
