Gochang-gun Promotes 'Rice Seedling Box Treatment Support Project for Pest and Disease Control'

Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk, is promoting the ‘Rice Seedling Box Treatment Agent Support Project’ this year to ensure a bountiful harvest.

According to the county on the 23rd, the total project cost is 1.424 billion KRW (50% subsidy, 50% self-payment), and in cooperation with the Gochang-gun branch of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation and local agricultural cooperatives, it plans to distribute a total of 116,338 packs covering a control area of 11,623 hectares to approximately 8,700 farms.

The project targets farmers residing in the county who cultivate rice on farmland within the jurisdiction, and the support standard is a fixed amount of 6,120 KRW per chemical pack.

Applications can be submitted to the relevant eup/myeon administrative welfare center by the 31st, and supplies will be distributed to farms through local agricultural cooperatives next month.

The rice seedling box treatment agent can comprehensively prevent and control major rice diseases and pests with a single treatment of the seedling tray.

It plays an important role in determining the annual harvest as it is a chemical agent capable of preventing diseases such as bacterial leaf blight and rice stripe disease, which are impossible to control after outbreak, as well as controlling pests like rice water weevil and brown planthopper.

Also, when applied simultaneously with sowing or on the day of transplanting, the efficacy lasts for 90 to 120 days. If weather conditions are favorable in the later stages, comprehensive control in the main field can be omitted or reduced to one additional treatment, resulting in prevention of rice diseases and pests and labor savings.

This project is expected to help resolve difficulties faced by farmers due to increased control costs and labor burdens and contribute to the safe production of high-quality rice.

Hyun Haeng-yeol, director of the Gochang-gun Agricultural Technology Center, said, “As the occurrence trends of diseases and pests are changing frequently due to recent abnormal weather, we will make every effort to ensure safe rice production through thorough monitoring and control guidance.”
