An Intelligent Transport System (ITS) will be established in Cheonan, Gongju, and Dangjin, Chungnam Province.
Chungnam Province announced on the 23rd that three cities/counties, Cheonan, Gongju, and Dangjin, were selected for the Intelligent Transport System construction project led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport this year, securing 7.4 billion KRW in national funding.
The Intelligent Transport System is being built to collect, analyze, and provide traffic information by integrating advanced information and communication technology with vehicle and road infrastructure, managing traffic demand, preventing traffic accidents, and improving the traffic environment.
The main projects include installing traffic information collection systems such as closed-circuit television (CCTV) and automatic vehicle identification (AVI) devices, installing traffic information provision systems such as variable message signs (VMS), and installing smart intersections and crosswalks.
The province plans to invest a total of 12.4 billion KRW this year in this project, including 5 billion KRW in local funds.
By region, Cheonan will invest 9.51 billion KRW to install 60 smart intersections and 22 smart crosswalks. Gongju will spend 2.04 billion KRW to install one parking information system and 20 short-range wireless communication devices, and Dangjin will invest 850 million KRW to build 9 smart intersections and a traffic information center.
The province expects that once these projects are completed, the Intelligent Transport System within the province will expand, improving traffic flow efficiency and ensuring safety.
Meanwhile, the province established a basic plan for the Intelligent Transport System last year to enable 15 cities and counties within the province to participate in related public contests.
This year, to respond to the public contest projects, a business briefing session for cities and counties was held in February to guide project plans and contest procedures, and following this guidance, Seosan and Gyeryong City have expressed additional intentions to participate in the projects.
