'Cross-dressing Man' Appears at Yeouido Gym
Apprehended by Police Following Gym Staff Report
A man who secretly entered the women's changing room at a large gym in Yeouido, Seoul, was caught by the police.
According to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul on the 22nd, a man identified as A was apprehended on the 19th around 7 p.m. at a gym in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, after entering the women's changing room. It was reported that A wore a long-haired wig, pink pants, and a mask, dressing in 'cross-dressing' style, and stayed in the women's changing room for about two hours.
Police who responded to a report from the gym staff took A into custody on the spot for questioning and then released him to go home.
According to the investigation, A stated that he "mistook it for the men's changing room." The police said that no photos or videos illegally taken inside the changing room were found on A's mobile phone.
On the same day, multiple online communities shared CCTV footage and photos of A under the title "Cross-dressing man in Yeouido gym women's changing room."
Photos showing A surrounded by police officers who arrived at the scene or being grabbed by the hair by someone also spread widely.
The police are conducting a non-custodial investigation against A on charges of violating the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (trespassing in a multi-use facility for sexual purposes).
The police plan to determine A's exact motive for the crime and will secure CCTV footage to further investigate any illegal filming.
