Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jo Seongmyeong) will open the ‘Gaepo Haneulkkum Library’ on the 23rd. The ‘Gaepo Haneulkkum Library’ is the 20th public library in the district and the first standalone library building in Gangnam-gu, spanning from basement level 1 to the 4th floor with an area of 1,995㎡.
Located at 54, Gaeporo 110-gil, Gangnam-gu, the library aims to be a universal library serving all age groups from children to the elderly. It consists of ▲1st floor toddler book playground and parent space ▲2nd floor children and youth reading room, LP listening room ▲3rd floor senior reading room, general reference room ▲4th floor cultural lecture room, media exhibition room. The library houses around 20,000 books and approximately 800 non-book materials including DVDs, LPs, and board games.
In particular, the media exhibition room is the first dedicated media art space in a public library in the district, where visitors can enjoy various media art pieces that stimulate the five senses and imagination. Additionally, a ‘makerspace’ has been created to serve as a collaborative and creative area. Instead of a fixed computer room, a laptop rental system is operated, allowing visitors to work freely anywhere within the library using laptops.
The library will hold an opening ceremony at 2:30 PM on the 23rd and conduct a series of opening week events from the 23rd to the 31st. The weekly events include ▲Meetings with authors (Choi Seokjae on the 23rd, Park Hyunsuk on the 24th, Yang Seon on the 25th, Jeong Jia on the 26th) ▲Experience the ‘Haneulkkum Library’ on the metaverse platform Gather Town ▲Exhibition of character dolls from picture books (1st floor lobby) ▲Calligraphy experience ▲Tile mural painting with congratulatory messages for the opening ▲Making congratulatory BOOK cookies, among 13 commemorative events.
