A Drunk Man in His 50s Caught Trespassing Jeju Naval Base Illegally: "I Thought It Was a Tourist Spot"

According to the Navy 7th Mobile Brigade and Seogwipo Police Station on the 22nd, a tourist in his 50s, Mr. A, rode a bicycle past the main gate of the Jeju Naval Base in Gangjeong-dong, Seogwipo City, and entered the base around 8 p.m. on the 20th.

One guard at the main gate tried to stop Mr. A, but he entered the base at high speed on his bicycle. Following the guard's report, the Navy tracked Mr. A's location via CCTV and apprehended him within five minutes of the intrusion.


During the police investigation, Mr. A stated, "While traveling the Olle Trail by bicycle, I followed the navigation guidance and thought it was a tourist spot, but it turned out to be a naval base."


The Navy and police confirmed Mr. A's identity and found no grounds for charges, as his statement about traveling by bicycle matched his movements in Jeju.


Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Mr. A was riding the bicycle under the influence of alcohol. His blood alcohol concentration at the time was 0.03%.


The police imposed a fine of 30,000 won on Mr. A for violating the Road Traffic Act. Additionally, Mr. A was booked on charges of violating the Military Bases and Military Facilities Protection Act.
