Chungbuk Chungju City Promotion Channel 'ChungTV' Operator
Celebrates Reaching 300,000 Subscribers with Viral Video
Explosive Response After Uploading 'B-Class Sensibility' Content
ChungTV, the promotional channel of Chungju City in Chungbuk, became the first among metropolitan and local governments nationwide to surpass 300,000 YouTube subscribers, and a thank-you message to subscribers was posted.
On the 21st, Chungju City's YouTube channel ChungTV uploaded a video titled "Thank You for 300,000 Subscribers - Humble Man's Low Posture Talk 3."
The video features Kim Seontae, a public official (35) from the Chungju City Hall Public Relations Team, who manages the channel, expressing gratitude for reaching 300,000 subscribers. This number far exceeds Chungju City's population of 210,000.
The reason this video caught netizens' attention was because of Kim's posture.
Contrary to the "low posture" emphasized in the title, in the video he delivered his thank-you message with both feet on the desk and leaning diagonally on the chair.
Kim said, "Hello, dear citizens. Chungju City has now reached 300,000 subscribers," adding, "I sincerely thank all the subscribers who have always supported and helped me, despite my shortcomings."
He continued, "Please continue to give your support to me and Chungju City. Once again, thank you all, and I will rest here for today. I love you, subscribers," delivering a short greeting with a wink.
Netizens who saw this responded explosively with comments such as, "As expected of a public official, so humble," "I should live humbly like this too," "Expressing humility by lowering the heart," "Seeing the soles of his feet are clean, he must have worked really hard," "Since one eye is half-closed, you should take some supplements," and "When you reach 500,000 subscribers, let's greet from the mayor's chair."
Although the video is only 24 seconds long, it has received great attention with 180,000 views and about 9,000 likes within 19 hours of posting.
Previously, ChungTV attracted public interest through several videos featuring so-called "B-grade sensibility." The "Public Official Coffin Dance" video created in 2020 to promote COVID-19 prevention recorded about 8.3 million views.
Chungju City's new attempts have been benchmarked and requested for collaboration by other local governments, public institutions, and private companies, continuing its path as a successful promotional channel.
