Husband's Hole-in-One in 2019, Wife's in 2021
Grilled Eel Restaurant 'Hambak Utsum' After Hole-in-One
They made a hole-in-one on the same date, at the same hole.
This is the story of the couple Lee Kyung-nam and Jang Sun-hee, who run the ‘Badamaeul Jangeo-gui’ restaurant in Haeri-myeon, Gochang-gun, Jeonbuk. At the Blue Course 2nd hole (par 3) of Jeonbuk Gochang CC, owned by Park Chang-yeol, chairman of the Korea Golf Course Management Association, you can see a pair of hole-in-one commemorative stones. They were made to commemorate the hole-in-ones achieved by Lee Kyung-nam and Jang Sun-hee. The Blue Course 2nd hole is relatively easy to approach. However, since the golf course is located by the sea, the wind is a variable factor.

The husband, with 12 years of experience, made his hole-in-one first on April 19, 2019. Holding a 6-iron, he hit the ball from a distance of 145 meters, and it was sucked into the hole. The husband made the first hole-in-one commemorative stone. Exactly two years later, on April 19, 2021, the wife, with 7 years of experience, made her mark. She also used a 6-iron and succeeded in a hole-in-one from 120 meters.
After their hole-in-ones, the Lee Kyung-nam and Jang Sun-hee couple’s restaurant also became a big hit. ‘Badamaeul Jangeo-gui’ is located just two minutes from Gochang CC. It is famous for Pungcheon eel charcoal-grilled, a representative delicacy of Gochang-gun. It has now become a popular destination for diners who love eel barbecue from all over the country. The couple smiled brightly, saying, "We can never forget April 19 every year," and "We commemorate it as the most meaningful day along with our wedding anniversary."
A hole-in-one is a rare feat even for tour players. For amateur golfers, the odds are usually 1 in 12,000, and for professional golfers, 1 in 3,500. After making a hole-in-one, people often buy lottery tickets hoping for financial luck or quietly expect a promotion. There is even a superstition that "if you make a hole-in-one, good luck will follow for five years." The Lee Kyung-nam and Jang Sun-hee couple made hole-in-ones at the same place, on the same date. It is a ‘miracle’ that is hard to calculate by probability.
