Free Water Quality Testing Offered for Desired Generations
The Waterworks Office of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, operates the ‘Cheongasu Safety Confirmation System,’ which provides free water quality testing services to households curious about tap water quality.
The ‘Cheongasu Safety Confirmation System’ is a program where a public official from the Water Quality Research Center visits the applicant’s household to conduct a free faucet water quality test.
Since 2021, to promptly address applicants’ concerns, water quality tests are conducted on-site using portable measuring devices, and results are immediately provided.
The safety confirmation test items include seven parameters: ▲‘Turbidity,’ indicating the clarity or cloudiness of the water ▲‘pH,’ showing the acidity or alkalinity ▲‘Residual chlorine,’ confirming safety from pathogenic microorganisms ▲and ‘Iron, Copper, Zinc, Manganese,’ which diagnose whether these metals are leaching from water pipes. If the water meets quality standards after on-site measurement, users can safely use the tap water.
If the on-site test results indicate the water is unsuitable for drinking, samples are collected and sent to the Water Quality Research Center laboratory for additional testing on 16 items, including general bacteria, to identify causes of non-compliance and provide improvement methods.
Applications for the Safety Confirmation System can be made through the Water Love website, and water quality testing is conducted after scheduling a visit with the responsible official in order of application receipt.
Lee Jong-deok, head of the Waterworks Office, stated, “We expect that directly confirming the quality of tap water used at home through the Cheongasu Safety Confirmation System will help alleviate vague anxieties about tap water.”
