KT&G announced on the 22nd that it will publicly recruit participants for the ‘2023 Band Discovery,’ a program that discovers and supports rookie indie musicians, until the 28th of next month.
Now in its 15th year, Band Discovery is a cultural contribution program run by KT&G Sangsangmadang since 2007 to discover and support promising rookie indie musicians. So far, a total of 51 teams have been selected, receiving practical benefits such as prize money, single album production, and performance opportunities. Through this program, many talented musicians have emerged, including the famous four-member indie band Thornapple and the alternative rock band The Vane, establishing it as a gateway for new musicians.
This contest is open to rookie musicians who have at least three original songs available online. After document screening and an online competition, two final teams will be selected, each receiving benefits worth approximately 5 million KRW, including prize money and album production costs. They will also have opportunities to participate in joint performances with established musicians and shows planned by Sangsangmadang. Detailed information and application methods for the 2023 Band Discovery can be found on the KT&G Sangsangmadang website and the Live Hall Instagram.
Shim Young-ah, Head of KT&G’s Social Contribution Office, said, "Through Band Discovery, we have provided promising rookie musicians with opportunities to showcase their music to the public." She added, "KT&G Sangsangmadang, a leading complex cultural space in Korea, will continue to contribute to the expansion of cultural arts through various programs such as performances and exhibitions."
