Jeon Seung-il, a member of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council, announced on the 22nd that the "Ordinance on Underground Safety Management in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City," which he proposed as the representative at the 310th extraordinary session, was passed as originally proposed.
The ordinance mainly includes the establishment of an underground safety management plan and the installation of an underground safety committee.
The district mayor must establish an underground safety management plan according to this ordinance.
The plan must include ▲basic directions ▲inspection of underground facilities ▲designation and cancellation of key facilities and areas for ground subsidence management and safety management ▲matters concerning mutual cooperation and measures among related agencies regarding underground safety.
In addition, an underground safety committee must be established to deliberate on various matters related to underground safety management.
The members of the committee must include ▲experts in the fields of geology, environment, and construction industry ▲public officials belonging to administrative agencies related to underground development or underground facility management, according to the regulations.
Councilor Jeon stated, "As high-rise buildings continue to be constructed in the district, concerns about ground subsidence are increasing. This ordinance was proposed to protect the lives and property of citizens and to ensure public safety."
