Professor Koo Tae-hwan Appointed as General Director of 2023 Gangnam Festival


Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) appointed Professor Koo Tae-hwan of the Department of Performing Arts at Incheon National University as the General Director of the 2023 Gangnam Festival on the 21st.


The 2023 Gangnam Festival is scheduled to be held for five days from October 5 to October 9 at COEX, Yeongdong-daero, and Maru Park. It will consist of six programs, including the opening ceremony that consolidates Gangnam's representative cultural tourism resources, Yeongdong-daero K-POP concert, Maru Park Green concert, Gangnam Fashion Festa, International Peace Marathon, and Gourmet Travel & K-Culture Stage.


General Director Koo Tae-hwan is a directing expert who has become a central figure in the performing arts scene by capturing both artistic value and popularity. He has directed numerous works such as "Three Days and Two Nights with My Mother," "When I See a Rainbow in the Wide Sky, My Heart Dances," and the opening work "Yajo" for the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Heritage. He has received awards including the 10th Korea National Assembly Award for Theater of the Year (2009), the Korean Theatre Arts Society Excellent Thesis Award (2018), and the 41st Seoul Theater Festival Grand Prize (2020).


General Director Koo Tae-hwan stated, "Gangnam's image is passion, youth, and future," adding, "I will weave this into a story and direct Gangnam as a future cultural city that is making a vigorous leap forward."


Jo Seong-myeong, Mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, "We will prepare a festival that captures the unique charm of Gangnam-gu by appointing a capable general director," and added, "We will prepare substantial programs to present a global festival where residents and domestic and international visitors can participate and enjoy together."

Yangcheon-gu (District Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced on the 21st that it has appointed Cheon Dong-hee, representative of Theater Company Yejiin, as the new chairman of the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation. The term is two years, ending on March 20, 2025.


New Chairman Cheon Dong-hee has served as the Dean of the Department of Performing Arts at Seoul Institute of the Arts, adjunct professor at Graduate School of Art and Design at Kyonggi University, and recently as a visiting professor at Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia and the National University of Arts in Mongolia. She is also active as a juror for international performing arts festivals in Europe and other countries.


In addition, she has taken charge of playwriting and directing in various performing arts, receiving both popular attention and high praise from experts, and has also been highly acclaimed by audiences domestically and internationally as an independent film director.


Chairman Cheon Dong-hee expressed her aspirations, saying, "I plan to actively discover lifestyle-friendly cultural and artistic programs that reflect the sentiments and needs of Yangcheon residents, focusing on promoting cultural arts in Yangcheon-gu and expanding opportunities for residents to enjoy culture. Based on close cooperation with the local community, I will actively promote sustainable cultural and artistic activities."


The Yangcheon Cultural Foundation publicly recruited candidates for chairman from March 3 to 23 last month and selected Representative Cheon Dong-hee as chairman through deliberation and resolution by the executive recommendation committee.


Established in 2019, the Yangcheon Cultural Foundation is a corporation that strengthens local cultural capabilities and provides residents with opportunities to enjoy high-quality cultural arts, promoting diverse cultural projects such as library operations, performances, festivals, and exhibitions.


Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, "I believe the new chairman will utilize her rich experience and know-how in related fields to play a leading role in the cultural and artistic revival of Yangcheon-gu," adding, "Culture is an important area that adds happiness to residents' daily lives, so I hope all foundation staff take pride in their work."

Hyundai Engineering & Construction Donates 10 Million KRW to Help Low-Income Neighbors in Dongdaemun-gu

On the 21st, Hyundai E&C employees gathered donations... Hoping to contribute to the advancement of Dongdaemun-gu



Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that on the afternoon of the 21st, Hyundai Engineering & Construction executives (Executive Director Han Seok-hee) and site managers visited Dongdaemun-gu Office to donate 10 million KRW.


The donation ceremony held in the mayor's office was attended by Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, Hyundai E&C Executive Director Han Seok-hee, and other officials. The donated funds will be used to support low-income neighbors.


Hyundai E&C is currently constructing a residential-commercial complex building on the reconstruction site of Building B of Miju Shopping Center located at 235-6 Cheongnyangni-dong, with 7 basement floors, 20 above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 64,523㎡, scheduled for completion at the end of March. The 'Cheongnyangni-dong Community Center' will be relocated to the 4th floor of this building.


Executive Director Han Seok-hee said, "We hope the donation prepared by gathering the hearts of Hyundai E&C employees will help the development of Dongdaemun-gu even a little."

Eunpyeong-gu Signs Business Agreement with Big Love Sharing Care Association to Support Nursing Fees for Single-Person Households

Agreement Signed on the 21st to Establish a Stable Service System

Supporting Nursing Fees for Single-Person Households to Promote Emotional Stability and Healthy Living



Eunpyeong-gu (District Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) signed a business agreement with Big Love Sharing Care Association on the 21st to support nursing fees for single-person households.


This agreement aims to ensure the successful establishment of a new Eunpyeong-gu project that supports nursing fees for single-person households vulnerable to social relationships and care.


According to the agreement, Big Love Sharing Care Association will cooperate to support nursing fees for single-person households by securing sufficient caregivers, guiding completion of caregiver training, providing verification details of caregiver rooms, and ensuring prompt and smooth service delivery.


The district will begin accepting applications for single-person households eligible for nursing fee support starting from the 27th. Selected single-person households will receive inpatient nursing fee support up to 100,000 KRW per day.


Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, "Single-person households often live alone, so when sudden hospitalization is required, a social safety net that can request help is necessary," adding, "I hope this agreement will serve as a stepping stone for emotional stability and healthy living for single-person households."
