Nakdonggang Regional Office and Gyeongnam Province 'Waves of New Opportunities for Change Together'

Event Held on the 22nd to Commemorate 'World Water Day'

The Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, in collaboration with Gyeongsangnam-do, will hold the 2023 'World Water Day' commemorative event on the 22nd at 10:30 AM at the Changwon Convention Center.

This year’s theme for 'World Water Day' is 'The Wave of New Opportunities Created Together.' It expresses the intention to create a safer and more prosperous future through collaborative changes in the water sector amid environmental challenges such as the intensification of the climate crisis.

Accordingly, the event plans to share the government’s efforts in establishing a stable water supply system in the Nakdong River basin and sustainable integrated water management, emphasizing the need for all stakeholders to participate in changes in water management methods in response to changing water management conditions.

The commemorative event will consist of various side events, including a ceremony, water forum, water love play, environmental love experience exhibition, and water environment photo exhibition.

The ceremony will be attended by Hong Dong-gon, head of the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office; Kim Byung-gyu, Vice Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do for Economic Affairs; Kim Il-su, Chair of the Economic and Environmental Committee of the Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Council; as well as about 300 participants from civic groups and academia.

Pre-ceremony performances featuring sand art to raise awareness of the importance of water, awards for water management contributors, and a willow watering performance will be held.

Following the ceremony, starting at 1 PM, four forums will be held under the theme 'Safe Water Management from the Climate Crisis': the Nakdong River Integrated Water Forum, Tap Water Forum, International Rainwater Forum, and International Stream Forum.

Additionally, the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office has designated March as the 'World Water Day Event Period' to raise public awareness of the importance of water through various events.

At the end of March, various water-related events, including tree planting activities with local residents and related organizations to create a pleasant water environment, will be promoted, along with efforts to publicize the importance of water management.

Director Hong stated, “I hope this World Water Day event will serve as an opportunity to once again reflect on the preciousness and gratitude for water,” adding, “We will strive to realize water welfare where everyone can drink healthy water through integrated water management.”
