Investigation of Witness Status... Police Investigation Expected to Accelerate
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 22nd that the fortune teller Cheongong, who is suspected of being involved in the relocation of the Yongsan Presidential Residence, will voluntarily appear next week.
Cheongong will coordinate the date with the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and voluntarily appear for questioning. Cheongong is currently a witness, so the police cannot forcibly summon him.
Since Cheongong has expressed his intention to appear, the police investigation into the suspicion of involvement in the relocation of the Presidential Residence is expected to accelerate. From the early stages of the investigation, the police regarded Cheongong as an important witness and stated that direct questioning was inevitable.
On the 15th, the police conducted a search and seizure of the Ministry of National Defense's Operations Support Division in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. At that time, the police secured materials related to visitors. They also received a hard disk containing CCTV footage around the Army Chief of Staff's residence in Hannam-dong from the Presidential Security Service and are currently conducting digital forensic work.
Meanwhile, the suspicion that Cheongong was involved in the decision to relocate the Hannam-dong residence began last December when former Justice Party lawmaker Kim Jong-dae raised the issue. The Presidential Office denied the related allegations and filed a complaint with the police against former lawmaker Kim and former Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Bu Seung-chan.
