A guest was trapped for three hours in a locked bathroom of a room at a 5-star hotel in Beijing, China, a fact that was reported belatedly.
On the 20th (local time), according to the Hong Kong South China Morning Post (SCMP), Chinese actress Jaydee Lin posted a related video on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, on the 13th (local time), saying, "My personal safety was seriously threatened at the hotel."
Lin was trapped in the bathroom of a room at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Beijing on December 29 last year. After locking the bathroom door and using the restroom, she tried to leave but found the door locked and could not get out.
At that time, Lin's mobile phone was inside the room, and the emergency wall-mounted phone in the bathroom was not working, so there was no way to inform the hotel or the police that she was trapped. Moreover, the bathroom did not have any visible ventilation system installed.
Panic-stricken, Lin knocked on the door and walls and shouted for help, but it was of no use. In the video, Lin recalled the situation, saying, "I was scared and it was hard to breathe."
After Lin's video spread online, the hotel issued a statement on Weibo, the Chinese version of Twitter, on the 15th, saying, "We are still investigating the incident," and "On the day of the incident, the hotel checked on the guest's situation and offered an apology."
They also stated that they are attempting to contact Lin to reach a compensation agreement and will inspect all room locks, emergency phones, and other equipment to prevent recurrence.
