Seonghae Lee, Daekwang Committee Chairman, "Special Traffic Measures Require Smooth Implementation"

Lee Seong-hae, Chairman of the Metropolitan Area Wide-area Transportation Committee, visited Pyeongtaek Godeok District on the 21st to inspect the progress of special transportation measures in the area.

On the morning of the same day, Chairman Lee visited the Pyeongtaek Business Headquarters of Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) and stated, "Pyeongtaek Godeok District is home to a large-scale industrial complex, and since the full-scale move-in began in 2019, various types of wide-area and internal transportation demands have emerged. However, due to delays in implementing wide-area transportation improvement measures and poor public transportation services, severe traffic inconveniences have occurred." He emphasized, "Accordingly, Pyeongtaek Godeok District was designated as a special measure district under the Wide-area Transportation Act, and after long deliberations, special transportation measures were established. It is necessary to ensure flawless implementation and meticulous management so that the originally intended effects can be realized."

Regarding the demand-responsive transportation (DRT), one of the detailed tasks of the special transportation measures, he said, "It is a more advanced new type of transportation service combining information and communication technology (ICT) with traditional transportation means, but it is still an unfamiliar service to the majority of the public." He urged, "Pyeongtaek City should conduct sufficient publicity in advance to ensure that residents do not experience any inconvenience in using the demand-responsive transportation from the initial introduction."

After directly examining traffic issues such as parking and lack of public transportation within the Godeok District, Chairman Lee commented on the parking problem, saying, "Due to the lack of public transportation services, many residents have no choice but to use private cars, resulting in serious parking problems." He added, "If the special transportation measures are implemented without any setbacks, it is expected that satisfactory public transportation services will be provided to residents, improving public transportation convenience."

Finally, Chairman Lee moved to the development site where he could oversee the entire Godeok District and reviewed the overall progress of the project. He said, "Although move-in has already begun, many detailed projects of the Pyeongtaek Godeok District wide-area transportation improvement measures are still ongoing." He urged, "Please make efforts to complete the ongoing wide-area transportation improvement projects in line with the possible completion dates of the development projects to promptly resolve the transportation inconveniences of the residents."
