When the Residents' Meeting Decided to Ban Box Truck Parking
Box Truck Owner Says, "You Said It Was Allowed in the Contract"
In an apartment complex in Incheon, conflicts have arisen among residents over parking issues. When the apartment management banned the parking of box trucks within the complex, an angry box truck owner blocked the entrance with his vehicle.
According to the Bupyeong Police Station in Incheon on the 21st, a report was received around 6 p.m. on the 17th that "a 1-ton box truck was parked in front of the entrance barrier" at an apartment in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, as reported by Yonhap News.
Police who arrived at the scene found the box truck parked at the visitor-only entrance. Although vehicles could pass through the adjacent resident-only entrance, residents criticized the act as "irrational behavior."
Some residents parked cars in front of and behind the box truck to block it in or attached Post-it notes to it to express their anger. The police reportedly could not tow the vehicle because the apartment complex roads are private property.
"I'm also a resident, so why block my parking?" Box truck owner protests
This conflict arose recently when the apartment banned residents who own box trucks from parking within the complex.
The apartment residents' representative committee, based on parking management regulations, prohibited vehicles taller than 2.3 meters from using the underground parking lot. For safety reasons within the complex, ground parking and entry were also blocked. Instead, residents were guided to use the nearby sports facility parking lot.
However, the box truck owner, Mr. A, is outraged. He claims that at the time of signing the lease, he was informed that box trucks could park on the ground, and that the alternative sports facility parking lot is a 20-minute walk away.
On the 19th, Mr. A posted on the online community BobaeDream, "When I asked at the model house during the apartment contract if (cargo trucks) could park on the ground, they said 'there is a ground parking lot.' I heard there was a separate parking entrance for ground parking and signed the lease accordingly."
He added, "Initially, both passenger cars and cargo trucks were registered as residents, so I parked the cargo truck on the roadside inside the complex. But over time, a vote was suddenly held, and box truck parking became impossible. No phone call was made to cargo truck residents. Since box truck owners are a minority, they inevitably suffer disadvantages, and no parking spaces were provided?they were just told to park on their own."
