LG HelloVision Strengthens Digital Content Competitiveness of 'HelloTV News'

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG HelloVision announced on the 21st that it will implement a ‘digital content-centered’ strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of its local channel ‘Hello TV News’.

To this end, LG HelloVision recently completely revamped its news homepage. Through the revamped news homepage, it aims to increase online accessibility for local channel viewers and further enhance the influence of digital content.

This revamp focused on ▲integrating pages that were separated by regions ▲real-time article transmission and reporting online ▲expanding mobile content production ▲curation of major news.

First, the new homepage integrated pages scattered by region to improve viewer accessibility. Previously, local news was categorized into 10 sub-sites under the official LG HelloVision website, making it difficult to find articles at once. By creating a dedicated homepage exclusively for ‘Hello TV News,’ viewers can access news more easily. Within one month of opening the dedicated homepage, article views approximately doubled.

The online real-time article transmission and reporting functions through the dedicated news homepage have also been strengthened. Articles will be transmitted in real time to the homepage before the main news broadcast, advancing the timing of online reporting. As reporting becomes possible online anytime and anywhere, it is expected to quickly deliver local hot issues such as real-time disaster alerts and breaking news.

Mobile content production is also being expanded to suit the platform’s format and nature. Reporters are trying various mobile-optimized short-form content such as ‘Newchins,’ which delivers local news briefly and concisely from the field, and ‘What the News,’ which easily explains unfamiliar words appearing in articles.

Additionally, major news curation has been implemented to encourage viewers to stay longer on the homepage. The previous news homepage simply provided a list of the latest news and a replay service, but the new homepage places headlines on the main screen and categorizes news by field, region, and corner. It also newly established a ‘Survey’ that asks viewers’ opinions weekly on divisive issues and an ‘Opinion’ menu featuring statements from the LG HelloVision desk and local community opinion leaders.

Yoon Kyung-min, head of the LG HelloVision news bureau, said, “LG HelloVision revamped the news homepage to increase local residents’ participation by introducing a column corner with local opinion leaders as contributors and surveys on local issues,” adding, “We will continue to make various attempts suitable for the digital transformation era through differentiated online content production.”
