The event, held both online and offline at the Bundang Seoul National University Hospital Healthcare Innovation Park, was attended by about 500 guests and staff, including Yoo Hong-rim, President of Seoul National University, and other dignitaries.
According to the hospital, Director Song took on the role of leading the Department of Laboratory Medicine from the hospital's opening in 2003, developing and establishing an advanced diagnostic testing system. He subsequently held key positions such as Head of Management Innovation, Head of Education and Training, and Head of Talent Development, and since 2019, he has served as Deputy Director of Medical Services and Head of the Public Healthcare Headquarters.
Notably, he recently led the "Capital Region Infectious Disease Specialized Hospital Construction Project." This project aims to establish a specialized hospital that will serve as a quarantine control tower for the entire capital region on the site of the Bundang Seoul National University Hospital’s Cheoltap parking lot area. It is a large-scale project investing over 500 billion KRW to build an infectious disease specialized facility with 189 negative pressure isolation beds (out of a total of 348 beds). The hospital explained that Director Song, who was in charge of the initial promotion of this project, successfully led it.
In his inaugural speech, Director Song set the management goal as becoming a "leader in medical innovation that changes the world." He presented three major tasks: "leap forward as a leader in future medicine," "strengthen essential medical services and expand public healthcare," and "create a dynamic culture of innovation through harmony and communication."
He stated, "At this turning point where medical development is transforming lifestyles, it is Bundang Seoul National University Hospital’s mission to lead the change in the medical paradigm in the right direction," adding, "To provide the best patient-centered medical services, we will reorganize hospital spaces with a future-oriented approach and develop the Healthcare Innovation Park site into a bio-healthcare hub leading the global medical industry."
He also expressed his determination to resolve the recent shortage of essential medical services. Director Song said, "We will actively foster areas of unmet essential medical needs such as severe, rare, and intractable diseases to ensure that citizens are not left in medical blind spots, and we will make this a long-term competitive advantage for the hospital."
Recognized as an authority in the field of laboratory medicine, Director Song graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine in 1988 and has been a professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine since 1997. He has served as chairman of the Korean Society for Laboratory Medicine and the Korea Institute of Genetic Testing Evaluation, and currently serves as president of the Korean Association of External Quality Assessment Service.
