‘Kind’ Taehwagang, Efficient Maintenance of Visitor Convenience Facilities at National Garden

Ulsan City Plans to Change Entrance to Sipridaesup Bamboo Grove Trail

Also Expanding CCTV and Foreign Language Signage in Samho District

The Taehwagang River in Ulsan is beckoning with a more ‘friendly’ face. Visitor convenience facilities are being efficiently maintained in preparation for the new spring.

In line with the endemic phase of COVID-19 and the increasing number of visitors to the National Garden, various preparations to welcome guests at Taehwagang are underway.

The silver grass in the old stream, which had been dormant throughout the winter, has been maintained to grow more in spring, and the soil covering work for the Ten-ri Bamboo Grove has also been carried out.

The entrance paths to the Taehwagang Ten-ri Bamboo Grove and Milky Way Trail, hot spots of the Taehwagang National Garden, are being changed. This is to protect the bamboo from the river breeze and to make it easier to locate this path at a glance from the National Garden Information Center.

Additionally, 36 CCTV cameras and security lights, as well as grass, are being installed along the walking trails in the Samho district to ensure no inconvenience for nighttime visitors.

Preparations are also underway for foreign tourists visiting the Taehwagang National Garden.

Since the designation of Taehwagang National Garden in July 2019, the installed signboards have displayed both Korean and English, but signboards installed before that only show Korean. These will be replaced with bilingual signboards.

From April, English commentary will be provided on the eco-friendly electric observation wheel, which was piloted in October last year and has been in full operation this year, when foreign visitors ride it. The number of foreign language garden guides will also gradually increase.

The Taehwagang National Garden is uniquely operated with 20 themes divided into 6 categories across 2 districts (Taehwa District and Samho District).

Eight professional personnel qualified as citizen gardeners are stationed to maintain the naturalistic garden, which was directly created in Asia for the first time by the world-renowned garden designer Piet Oudolf.

An official from Ulsan City said, “We will cultivate the Taehwagang National Garden more beautifully and elegantly in spring to present it as the top travel destination.”
