Ministry of Industry Holds 'Advanced Robot Regulatory Innovation' Business Briefing
'Advanced Robot Industry Strategy 1.0' to be Announced in First Half of the Year
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 'Advanced Robot Regulatory Innovation Corporate Briefing' on the 21st. The ministry plans to announce the 'Advanced Robot Industry Strategy 1.0' in the first half of the year and systematize support for related industries.
On the 21st, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the Advanced Robot Regulatory Innovation Corporate Briefing at EL Tower in Seoul with its affiliated organization, the Korea Institute for Robot Industry Advancement, sharing these future plans with participating companies. More than 80 people attended the briefing, including robot development companies in various fields such as delivery, patrol, collaborative, and underwater robots, as well as demand organizations hoping to introduce robots.
This briefing was organized to share the 'Advanced Robot Regulatory Innovation Plan' announced at the 3rd Regulatory Innovation Strategy Meeting on the 2nd with companies in the robot sector and to collect opinions from the field.
The 'Advanced Robot Regulatory Innovation Plan' was prepared by forming a private-sector-led 'Private Consultative Body for Robot Industry Regulatory Improvement,' deriving regulatory improvement tasks through subcommittee meetings, and coordinating with relevant ministries.

This plan aims to improve 51 core tasks in four major areas: expanding robot mobility, entering the safety industry, spreading collaborative and assistive robots, and expanding robot-friendly infrastructure, with 39 of these tasks to be swiftly implemented by next year.
In particular, key laws to guarantee robot mobility will be revised within this year, and by establishing grounds for services such as robot-utilized delivery and patrol, the robot mobility industry is expected to be revitalized.
Additionally, a foundation will be laid for the entry of robots into the safety service market, such as underwater cleaning robots and disaster safety robots, and institutional improvements will be promoted to encourage the introduction of collaborative and assistive robots in fields such as medical care, agriculture, and restaurants.
Joo Young-jun, Director of Industrial Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, said, "Robots are an industry with triple potential for industrial innovation, responding to labor market changes, and future new growth engines. We will actively support South Korea to leap forward as one of the world's top three robot powers. To secure core technologies with a super-gap, we will invest more than 2 trillion won jointly between the public and private sectors over the next five years, continuously pursue bold and speedy regulatory innovations to create a robot-friendly environment, and prioritize expanding robot distribution and demonstration in areas such as labor shortages and safety response to create a robot market. Based on these policy directions, we will establish and announce the 'Advanced Robot Industry Strategy 1.0' within the second quarter," he said.
