Jungnang-type ESG Policy Direction to Be Decided Together with Residents! Brand Slogan Contest

‘Jungnang-type ESG Brand Slogan Contest’ Held from the 22nd of This Month to April 5th

Any Jungnang Resident Can Participate with an Original Phrase within 15 Characters Reflecting Policy Direction and Vision

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) is holding a contest for brand slogans that embody the policy direction and vision of the ‘Jungnang-type ESG Policy’ from the 22nd of this month to April 5th.

ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance, a method that pursues sustainable development by incorporating social and ethical values into corporate management. Recently, as the importance of integrating ESG into the public sector has been emphasized, the district held an expert advisory meeting in February and officially began introducing ESG administration.

This ‘Jungnang-type ESG Brand Slogan Contest’ aims to widely promote the district’s ESG policy commitment, and any Jungnang resident can participate. The contest runs from the 22nd of this month to April 5th, and each person can submit up to two entries.

The slogan should be an original phrase that effectively conveys the aspirations, values, and importance of Jungnang-gu’s ESG policy. Both Korean and foreign language expressions are allowed, and the phrase must be within 15 characters excluding spaces. However, only the first submission of identical names will be accepted, and entries plagiarizing others’ work or containing false information will be disqualified.

Submissions can be made via the resident participation board on the Jungnang-gu Office website, by mail, email, or by visiting the Planning and Budget Division on the 4th floor of the district office.

Submitted works will be judged based on ▲appropriateness ▲creativity ▲conciseness ▲applicability, with final results announced on April 27th. A total of 15 winners will be selected: 1 grand prize, 4 runner-ups, and 10 participation awards, with Seoul Love Gift Certificates worth up to 500,000 KRW awarded.

The final selected slogan will be used to promote various ESG-related projects of the district.

Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi of Jungnang-gu said, “We prepared this slogan contest to explore the direction of how Jungnang-gu will integrate ESG into administration together with residents,” and added, “We ask for the interest of many residents with creative ideas in the slogan contest.”

The district is currently in the legislative notice phase for enacting a Basic Ordinance on Sustainable Development to establish the foundation for ESG administration.

Gwanak-gu Proclaims Vision ‘A City Dreaming of the Future, The ESG Gwanak’

Expanding ESG Management into Administrative Areas, Vigorously Starting as a Sustainable City

Forming Broad Understanding and Consensus on ESG Policies with Residents and Related Organizations

Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) introduced ESG policies to realize a sustainable city and held the ‘The ESG Gwanak Vision Proclamation Ceremony’ on the 21st at the Gwanak-gu Office auditorium.

‘ESG Policy’ stands for ▲Environment, including climate change response and carbon emission reduction ▲Social, including labor environment improvement and protection of socially vulnerable groups ▲Governance, including transparent corporate management and compliance with laws and ethics, pursuing sustainable development and social and ethical values.

Accordingly, the district expanded ESG management into the administrative domain and established the ‘Gwanak-type ESG Policy Comprehensive Plan’ in February. Under the vision ‘A City Dreaming of the Future, The ESG Gwanak,’ it is focusing on 46 projects across fields such as creating the Byeolbitnaerincheon waterfront space, operating the Social Economy Integrated Support Center, and improving integrity.

About 300 people including related organizations such as Seoul National University, local companies, and residents attended the proclamation ceremony, signaling the launch of pioneering ‘ESG policy’ initiatives.

The ceremony began with a fusion Korean traditional music congratulatory performance, followed by presentations including ‘Introduction to ESG’ by Yoon Soon-jin, Dean of the Graduate School of Environmental Studies at Seoul National University, ‘Research Cases’ by Professor Jung Hye-jin of Seoul National University, and ‘Practice Cases’ by Song Soo-yeon, CEO of social enterprise Dasup Co., Ltd., enhancing understanding of ESG among local residents and related organizations. The ESG vision declaration was also read together.

Especially, at the end of the event, representatives of residents embracing various age groups such as the elderly, children, and youth, along with all attendees, pledged ESG practice by shouting ‘The ESG Gwanak’ in unison.

Additionally, diverse programs such as screening of award-winning videos from the 2050 Carbon Neutral Video Contest, experiencing machines that crush used PET bottles into resource-recycling products, and a carbon-neutral photo zone attracted residents’ interest.

The district plans to hold an ‘ESG Practice Idea Contest’ in May to actively discover innovative ideas and enact the ‘ESG Management Activation Ordinance’ within this year to systematically support ESG management activities of local companies.

Mayor Park Jun-hee said, “Cooperation is most important for the success of ESG policies,” and added, “Gwanak-gu will continue to actively cooperate with residents, companies, civic groups, media, Seoul National University, and related organizations to leap forward as a world-class sustainable development city.”

Gangnam-gu’s Sports Park in Segok-dong San 1-7, Scheduled for Completion in the First Half of This Year, Naming Contest Open Until the 26th via District Office Website

Gangnam-gu (Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) is holding a naming contest for the district’s first sports park, currently under construction and scheduled for completion by the end of June this year, until the 26th.

The sports park under construction in the Segok-dong San 1-7 area covers 43,968㎡, about four and a half times the size of a soccer field. The construction progress has exceeded 55%, and completion is expected in the first half of this year. Facilities will include one soccer field, four tennis courts, a multipurpose sports ground, community sports facilities, a circular walking trail over 600 meters long, a lawn plaza, access roads, and parking lots.

Any Gangnam resident can participate by submitting one naming proposal per person through the district office website. The name should be based on ▲‘regionality’ that commemorates historical facts or old place names or represents the area ▲‘popularity’ that concisely reflects the park’s image and is easy for anyone to call ▲‘originality’ that expresses the unique characteristics of the park. However, names already established for parks, those with strong religious connotations, or names that could be used as promotional tools for specific companies are restricted.

Names collected through the contest will undergo a preference survey via online voting on the website. The top entries will be awarded cultural gift certificates: 300,000 KRW for the grand prize (1st place), 100,000 KRW for excellence (2nd-3rd place), and 50,000 KRW for encouragement (4th-10th place). The top three names selected through the preference survey will then go through a naming committee review and other procedures to finalize the park’s name. Detailed participation information is available on the Gangnam-gu website.

Mayor Jo Seong-myeong said, “I hope the district’s first sports park, which embodies the residents’ aspirations, will receive a name that everyone can easily relate to,” and added, “We will carefully monitor the construction progress and do our best to complete it in the first half of this year.”
