Presidential Office: "G7 Invitation, Positive Measure Following South Korea-Japan Summit Outcome" (Update)

The Blue House stated that Japan's invitation of South Korea to the upcoming Group of Seven (G7) summit in Hiroshima this May is a positive measure following the results of the South Korea-Japan summit.

In a written briefing on the same day, the Blue House spokesperson said, "We evaluate Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's invitation of President Yoon Suk-yeol to the G7 summit held in Hiroshima this May as a positive step following the outcomes of the South Korea-Japan summit."

Japanese media reported that Prime Minister Fumio Kishida extended an invitation to President Yoon during his visit to India for the G7 summit to be held in Hiroshima, Japan, in May.

Prime Minister Kishida explained that, in addition to South Korea, leaders from Brazil, Australia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Comoros, and the Cook Islands were also invited to the G7 summit. As the chair country of the G7 this year, Japan has the authority to select invitees.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a spokesperson's comment on the same day, stating, "We welcome the Japanese government's invitation of our country to the 2023 G7 summit."
