Pohang City is promoting the ‘Youth Monthly Rent Temporary Special Support Project’ to support housing stability for low-income youth.
The ‘Youth Monthly Rent Temporary Special Support Project’ is a temporary government initiative to alleviate the housing cost burden on young people facing economic difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible applicants are non-homeowners aged 19 to 34 who do not live with their parents and reside in rental housing with a monthly rent of 600,000 KRW or less and a deposit of 50 million KRW or less.
The income and asset requirements are as follows: ▲ For those aged 30 or older, the youth household’s monthly income must be 60% or less of the median income standard ▲ For those aged 30 or younger, the youth household’s monthly income must be between 50% and 60% of the median income standard, or the original household income must be 100% or less of the median income standard. Eligible applicants will receive 200,000 KRW per month for one year.
However, those who own a house, rent a house owned by direct ascendants, siblings, or relatives within the second degree of kinship, live in public rental housing, or reside in housing with a deposit exceeding 50 million KRW are excluded.
Applications can be submitted by August 21 through the Bokjiro website or by visiting the administrative welfare center in the applicant’s jurisdiction. Eligibility and criteria will be reviewed to select recipients. The city is currently supporting monthly rent for approximately 350 youth households.
Pohang City stated, “We hope this project will reduce the housing cost burden for young people facing economic difficulties. Since this is a temporary project, we ask for active participation and interest so that youth can receive timely support.”
