The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the 20th that it is verifying the facts regarding a personal information leak incident believed to be related to Coupang.

Earlier, controversy arose over 460,000 pieces of personal information belonging to individuals who had purchased items from Coupang being posted on a dark web hacking forum. The data is reported to include some customer delivery information for overseas direct purchases.

In this regard, the Commission plans to review the source, circumstances, and scale of the leaked personal information, and if the personal information handlers related to the leak are identified, it will initiate an investigation into violations of the Personal Information Protection Act.

Coupang stated that based on the disclosed information, it is presumed to be information about orders for overseas direct purchase products through an open market, but it is not possible to confirm through which company the orders were made.
