Support for Family Centers and Interpretation Services in 7 Languages
Gohung-gun, Jeonnam Province (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 20th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Gohung-gun Family Center to facilitate civil service administration for foreigners and multicultural families visiting the county office and town and township civil service offices.
According to the county, as of the end of December last year, the population of Gohung was about 62,000, of which 1,383 were foreigners, accounting for 2.2% of the total population. The demand for civil administrative services for foreigners is gradually increasing.
Accordingly, to support smooth communication for foreigners and multicultural families who have taken their first steps in the local community and to resolve difficulties related to civil administration such as foreigner registration card issuance, passport issuance, and vehicle transfer, the county decided to provide civil administrative interpretation and translation services through an MOU with the Family Center.
The civil administrative interpretation and translation service consists of a hotline supporting interpretation in seven languages including English, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, and Cambodian. When foreigners visit the county office and 16 town and township offices, they can connect via mobile phone (video/audio) with Family Center interpretation volunteers to help understand civil service matters. If necessary, interpretation volunteers will visit the civil service office in person to provide face-to-face interpretation and translation support.
A county official said, "We expect that the foreign language interpretation and translation service resulting from this MOU will enable faster and more accurate civil service processing," and added, "We will continue to actively discover various policies for socially vulnerable groups and do our best to improve civil service."
Gohung-gun plans to continue making every effort to provide customer satisfaction services filled with consideration and inspiration to care for socially disadvantaged groups and provide civil administrative services that make residents happy.
