Gyeonggi-do Implements Emergency Fine Dust Reduction Measures

Gyeonggi-do Implements Emergency Fine Dust Reduction Measures Emergency Reduction Measures Implementation Procedures in Gyeonggi-do

Gyeonggi Province will implement emergency reduction measures from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the 20th in response to the issuance of the ultrafine dust crisis alert at the 'Interest' level.

The province stated that due to the accumulation of residual fine dust from the previous day and domestically generated fine dust caused by stagnant air, the daily average concentration of ultrafine dust exceeded 50㎍/㎥ from midnight to 4 p.m. on the 19th, and it is expected to exceed 50㎍/㎥ on the 20th as well, meeting the Ministry of Environment's criteria for issuing emergency reduction measures.

Accordingly, the province will restrict and monitor the operation of grade 5 emission vehicles from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on that day, imposing a fine of 100,000 KRW upon detection.

Additionally, emergency reduction measures will be enforced at private, administrative, and public institution workplaces and construction sites within the province.

At public workplaces including waste incineration plants and other facilities emitting large amounts of fine dust, measures such as changing operating hours, adjusting operating rates, or improving efficiency must be taken.

Construction sites are required to implement dust suppression measures such as changing or adjusting construction hours and covering with dustproof tarps, with a particular emphasis on strengthening road cleaning in urban areas.

Furthermore, environmental departments of cities and counties, the provincial metropolitan environmental management office, and the Seoul Metropolitan Air Quality Management Office will inspect industrial complexes and other densely concentrated workplace areas using unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) and mobile measurement vehicles.

The province will especially conduct on-site inspections of fine dust reduction measures, including a visit to the Gunpo City municipal waste incineration plant on that day.
