22 Si-Gun Counties, Over 220 Athletes Participating
The "62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival," a sports festival for the unity of 2 million Jeollanam-do residents, will be held in Wando-gun from May 12 to 15.
The organizing committee of the 62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival introduces the rules and viewing points of each event every week.
The event introduced this time is "boxing," a type of martial art where competitors are divided by weight class and fight in a square ring wearing gloves on both hands, striking the opponent's front body to determine the winner.

The basic offensive techniques include five types: straight, jab, uppercut, hook, and body punch, with various applied techniques. Repetitive training and a high level of skill are required.
The straight is a punch that delivers direct damage to the opponent by rotating the waist to load body weight and apply force.
The jab is the most basic technique, a short punch used to check the opponent, measure distance, break the opponent's guard, and prepare for the final attack with a straight punch.
The hook is a punch thrown sideways, the uppercut is a punch thrown from bottom to top, and the body punch refers to any punch aimed at the opponent's abdomen while bending the body.
The boxing competition of the 62nd Jeollanam-do Sports Festival will be held from May 13 to 15 for three days at the Gunoe Citizens Sports Center, with about 220 athletes from 22 cities and counties participating in a tournament-style individual competition by weight class.
The competition categories range from -49 kg to +91 kg across 10 weight classes, with matches consisting of three rounds of two minutes each, including a one-minute break.
Participants can include one person per weight class among directors, managers, coaches, and athletes.
Eligibility requires registration as a festival athlete within the designated period, prioritizing participation based on registered residence, with the option to compete based on birthplace.
In last year's 61st festival, Hwasun ranked first, Shinan second, and Jindo third; in the 58th festival in 2019, Boseong was first, Hwasun second, and Yeongam third; and in the 57th festival in 2018, Hwasun was first, Yeongam second, and Jindo third.
The festivals in 2020 and 2021 were canceled due to COVID-19.
In the 62nd festival, the key points to watch are whether the traditional powerhouse Hwasun-gun will win for the second consecutive time, or if Boseong, which ranked first in 2019, will claim the championship again.
Additionally, the performances of cities and counties such as Shinan, Jindo, and Yeongam, which have consistently shown good results, are also worth anticipating.
The host, Wando-gun, ranked 12th in the 2019 festival and 19th in the 2022 festival, but it is expected to achieve better results by leveraging the advantage of being the host in the 62nd festival.
