Yongin City Expands Public Bus Fleet to 242 Vehicles Across 128 Routes

Yongin City Expands Public Bus Fleet to 242 Vehicles Across 128 Routes Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do will expand the operation of public buses.

Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province will invest 16.9 billion KRW this year to expand public buses to a total of 128 routes with 242 vehicles to enhance the convenience of citizens' mobility.

Yongin City will first establish the new village bus route 502 connecting Mabuk-dong in Giheung-gu to Guseong Station, an area where citizens experienced inconvenience due to the lack of bus routes. Two public buses will be deployed, operating 50 times a day.

To improve convenience for bus users and transportation workers, nine additional buses will be added across nine routes.

To shorten commuting times for students of Eondong Middle School in Giheung-gu and Daegi High School in Suji-gu, one bus will be added to route 26-3. For citizens' convenience in public transportation transfers, one bus will be added each to routes 77 (Sanghyeon Station to Yongin Severance Hospital), 18 (Cheonghyeon Village to Giheung-gu Office), and 20 (Guseong Raemian to Jukjeon Station).

One additional bus will also be added to each of four routes that frequently receive complaints due to high demand and inconvenience.

The routes receiving additional buses include 80-2 (Jinhung Apartment to Dongbaek E-Mart), 501 (Dongbaek Station to Baekhyeon High School), 21 (Dongbaek Station to Giheung-gu Office), and 53 (Hyundai Hometown to Giheung-gu Office).

To ensure sufficient rest time for transportation workers, one bus will be added to route 68 (Yongin Terminal to Suji-gu Office).

Additionally, four routes (33 buses) that were operated under a private system but abandoned due to decreased profitability will be converted to a semi-public system, with the city managing the routes starting this year.

These include routes 810-1 (Dongbaek World Meridian to Giheung-gu Office), 810 (Chodang High School to Migeum Station), 51-2 (Sanggal Station to Giheung Living Power), and 58-1 (Heungdeok 11,15 Complex to Jukjeon Station).

Last year, the inaugural year of the public bus system, Yongin City received a satisfaction score of 86 in the 'Bus GoGo' citizen evaluation.

Citizens directly board buses to conduct undercover evaluations on vehicle cleanliness and operational safety. On the 14th, the second evaluation team was appointed to assess satisfaction until the end of 2024.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin City, stated, "Transportation in Yongin is so painful that improving public transportation services is urgent. As I frequently use buses myself, I fully empathize with citizens' inconveniences. The semi-public bus system is a system where the city leads route management to prevent citizens from experiencing inconvenience due to lack of routes or irregular operations. We will continue to improve public transportation with high-quality services that citizens can feel."
