A man in his 60s was arrested for shooting steel marbles with a slingshot at a neighboring building from a high-rise apartment, breaking the windows.
A man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, who is accused of shooting steel marbles with a slingshot and breaking the windows of three neighboring apartments in a high-rise building in Songdo International City, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, is entering the Incheon District Court in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, on the afternoon of the 19th for a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review). On the 19th, the Yeonsu Police Station in Incheon announced that they had arrested a man in his 60s, identified as A, on charges of special property damage. A police official stated, "It is understood that the court issued an arrest warrant due to concerns about flight risk."
A is accused of shooting 8mm-diameter steel marbles with a slingshot at three neighboring units in an adjacent building from a 32-story apartment in Songdo International City, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, on the afternoon of the 10th, repeatedly damaging the windows.
All the affected units were located on the 20th floor or higher, with two of them confirmed to be in the same building. In one of the affected units on the 29th floor, a 3cm hole was found in the outer glass of two 3mm-thick glass panes, and the surrounding area was also broken.
The police analyzed CCTV footage within the apartment complex and, after conducting an expert examination with the National Forensic Service to estimate the shooting point, identified the suspicious unit in the neighboring building and apprehended A at his residence.
During the police investigation, A stated, "I was curious about how far the steel marbles would actually fly, so I shot them. I bought the slingshot and steel marbles online," adding, "I did not aim at any specific unit."
