Jim Perry, Two-Time PGA Champions Winner, Passes Away at 92

Flat Cap and Long Socks as Trademarks

Jim Perry (USA), who won twice on the PGA Champions Tour, the senior tour of the U.S. professional golf circuit (PGA), passed away on the 14th (local time) at the age of 92.

Perry was known for his trademark outfit of a flat cap, loose knickerbockers reaching his knees, and long socks. After debuting on the PGA Champions Tour in 1981, he became the inaugural logo model through then-PGA Commissioner Dean Beman.


He turned professional in 1955 and won the PGA Tour Vancouver Open in 1958. After joining the PGA Champions Tour in 1981, he claimed two victories in 1986 and 1991. Until his retirement in 2002, he competed in 407 official tournaments and finished as runner-up 12 times. In 1993, he overcame prostate cancer and returned to the field, earning the Comeback Player of the Year award from the PGA Champions Tour.


In 1991, he became the first golfer inducted into the Hall of Fame of his alma mater, the University of North Carolina.
