Oh Se-hoon: "Sampyo and Seoul Forest Area to Be Developed into a Global Future Business District"

The Seoul Metropolitan Government is transforming the site of the Sampyo Ready-Mix Concrete Factory in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu into a future-oriented advanced industrial hub. A waterfront landmark tower is planned for the nearby Seoul Forest.

On the 16th (local time), while on a business trip to Europe, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited the Grand Canal Dock district in Dublin, Ireland, and announced this vision. The Grand Canal Dock district is a global IT industry-centered business complex combining office, residential, commercial, and cultural spaces. It is renowned as a world-class waterfront cultural complex featuring creatively designed buildings and cultural facilities along the waterfront.

On this day, Mayor Oh revealed plans to create a new Han River waterfront landmark by establishing a ‘Global Future Business District’ in the Seongsu area.

Mayor Oh plans to develop the Sampyo site into the Global Future Complex (GFC), a space housing future-oriented advanced industry (TAMI) companies. TAMI stands for Technology, Advertising, Media, and Information industries. The plan includes constructing smart offices supported by cloud networks and artificial intelligence work environments, and connecting the lower floors to Seoul Forest and surrounding areas through sunken spaces (sunken, underground spaces exposed above ground) and rooftop parks.

In the Seoul Forest area, a waterfront landmark tower will be built to create viewing spaces. Additionally, underutilized sites within Seoul Forest will be developed into spaces for exhibitions, conventions, and conferences. To address the shortage of parking spaces in Seoul Forest, which attracts up to 7 million visitors annually, the existing outdoor parking lot will be moved underground, and parking capacity will be increased beneath the multi-layered rooftop park.
