Hyundai Motor Company Unveils Future City Exhibition at 'Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul'

Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 19th that it will hold an exhibition presenting the vision of a future city in the carbon-neutral era at 'Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul' until May.

The exhibition held at ‘Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul’ was highly praised last year in July at ‘Hyundai Motorstudio Busan,’ attracting 100,000 visitors. This year, it will continue under the same theme with added new imagination.

This exhibition, designed to allow visitors to experience new possibilities for sustainable living and envision the daily lives of future generations living in the carbon-neutral era, was created in collaboration with a London-based architectural and design innovation group specializing in biotechnology.

The main piece of the exhibition consists of an artificial tree made by injecting green algae into a 3D-printed bioplastic structure, which stores carbon in the main body like a real tree and supplies oxygen to the atmosphere, along with a connected green algae ‘Algae’ cultivation device.

The photosynthetic green algae used in this piece purify indoor air by utilizing sunlight and carbon dioxide in the air as nutrients, at a level equivalent to about 12 fully grown trees capturing carbon dioxide. It plans to provide an experience of a bio-digital ecosystem of a future city.

Additionally, in , visitors can observe the process where the cultivated ‘Algae’ performs photosynthesis and, through a bio-circulation process, transforms into an artificial tree. Also, on the large media facade located inside and outside the 1st and 2nd floors of Hyundai Motorstudio Seoul, a video artwork showing a future where the structure of natural virtuous cycles is maximized is screened. It depicts a sustainable city as a single living organism that autonomously supplies and circulates the energy and resources necessary for life activities.

A Hyundai Motor Company official stated, “Hyundai Motor has been making continuous efforts toward carbon neutrality based on the brand vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,’” and added, “We hope this exhibition becomes an opportunity to think about what can be done for future generations and the sustainable future realized through the combination of creativity and technology.”
