Jangheung-gun Hosts Shiitake Mushroom Beverage Tasting Event

Beverage Redevelopment Utilizing Local Specialty Products

Jangheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Seong) held a tasting event on the 16th at the county office situation room to reproduce shiitake mushroom beverages.


According to the county on the 18th, more than 20 officials from the Nonghyup Jangheung Branch, Jeongnamjin Jangheung Nonghyup, and the Mushroom Industry Research Institute attended the tasting event.

The Jangheung shiitake beverage is a product loved by many consumers of all ages, selling over 600,000 cans annually due to its local government reliability and its tangy yet mild flavor.


Production was halted due to a fire at the beverage production factory in April 2021, but responding to consumer demand for the shiitake beverage, last month Jeongnamjin Jangheung Nonghyup, Dain Beverage, and the Mushroom Industry Research Institute agreed on a reproduction plan, restoring the existing product and developing prototypes reflecting various consumer requests.


This tasting event was held prior to shiitake beverage production to evaluate and incorporate feedback on the product’s taste and design, surveying preferences for two prototype shiitake beverages and four can designs and sharing opinions.


Based on the opinions gathered that day, Jeongnamjin Jangheung Nonghyup and Jangheung-gun plan to actively promote the project aiming for product launch in May.


Governor Kim Seong stated, “We will strive to develop various forms of products using Jangheung’s excellent agricultural specialties to promote consumption of Jangheung specialties and increase farmers’ income.”
