A police officer on vacation apprehended a cash collector for a voice phishing organization at the scene with sharp observation skills.
According to the Gwangju Police Agency on the 17th, Officer Park Young-geun (36) of the 3rd Mobile Unit noticed a suspicious person in front of a bank in Bongseon-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, around 4:40 p.m. on the 16th while he was on vacation.
The man was taking a photo of the bank signboard with his mobile phone and entered the bank carrying a paper bag that appeared to contain bundles of cash.
Officer Park sensed that the voice phishing collector was about to perform a 'split remittance' of the embezzled money and entered the bank to conduct a random inspection.
As expected, the man kept checking his phone and tried to make a bank transfer without a passbook using someone else's resident registration number. The paper bag contained bundles of cash amounting to 18.15 million won.
After persistently questioning the source of the money, Officer Park obtained a confession of the crime and immediately arrested him on the spot as a suspect caught in the act.
Earlier this year in January, while on traffic duty in the Bongseon-dong area of Nam-gu during a break, Officer Park also spotted a voice phishing collector, arrested him on the spot, and recovered 11 million won in damages.
