MRT Line 2 Phase 2 Section Fully Opened... Total of 49 Train Sets Deployed
Hyundai Rotem's driverless electric trains ordered in Malaysia have all entered operation.
On the 16th, Hyundai Rotem announced that the 49 sets of driverless electric trains delivered to Malaysia's state-owned railway company MRT have begun commercial operation. The driverless trains deployed this time were ordered in 2016 and have been operating sequentially since June last year.
The Malaysian electric train supply project has greatly benefited from the South Korean government's comprehensive diplomatic support. In particular, the Korean Embassy in Malaysia has been providing multifaceted support by continuously arranging meetings with local government agencies and clients to secure additional orders for the MRT Line 3 (Circle Line) project following Line 2.
The construction of MRT Line 2 (Putrajaya Line) involves building 37 stations over a total distance of 52.2 km from Sungai Buloh to the administrative capital, Putrajaya. Notably, the Line 2 section connects Malaysia's central areas, prominent landmarks, and the administrative capital, and is expected to contribute to improving the transportation system.
On this day, Hyundai Rotem attended the opening ceremony of the second phase of Line 2 held at the Serdang depot in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, supporting a train ride event. The event was graced by over 300 local high-ranking political and government officials, including Dato' Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister (and Minister of Finance), Anthony Loke, Minister of Transport, as well as Ambassador Yeo Seung-bae to Malaysia, Osu Young, Director of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and Kim Jeong-hoon, Head of Hyundai Rotem Rail Solution Business Division.
Based on the stable delivery performance of the Line 2 driverless trains, Hyundai Rotem is focusing its capabilities on the Line 3 project, which is currently undergoing pre-qualification (PQ), and on securing future new projects.
A Hyundai Rotem official said, "Based on the trust we have built over a long period locally, we will continue to strive to deliver even better electric trains."
