Indian Raja Claims "Not Charging When Explosion Occurred"
Xiaomi Advises "Avoid External Pressure on Device"
There has been a claim of an explosion accident involving the Chinese smartphone 'Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G' in India.
According to overseas media on the 15th (local time), a smartphone belonging to Sanjeav Raja, who lives in Bihar, India, recently exploded.
Raja stated that the explosion occurred while he had placed the smartphone on the bed and briefly left the spot, and when he returned, the smartphone was emitting smoke and was charred black.
He clarified that "the explosion was so large that part of the mattress where the phone was placed was also damaged," and emphasized that the smartphone was not connected to a charger. The explosion happened while his family members were away, so there were no casualties.
Raja revealed that he purchased the Xiaomi 11 Lite NE 5G model in December 2021 and had been using it until now.
Xiaomi responded by saying, "After investigating the cause of the incident, it appears to have been caused by the user's incorrect device operation," and added, "The accident is presumed to have occurred due to damage from a puncture mark on the battery, which is classified as customer negligence."
They continued, "We are continuously communicating with the customer to resolve this issue," and emphasized, "Xiaomi advises customers to refrain from opening the device or applying external pressure and to visit an authorized service center if assistance is needed."
Meanwhile, this is not the first suspected explosion incident involving Xiaomi smartphones. In March 2020 and May 2021, Xiaomi's 'Redmi Note 7' and 'Redmi Note 9 Pro' respectively caught fire in India. In both cases, Xiaomi maintained the position that "the damage was caused by external forces induced by the customer," attributing the incidents to customer negligence.
Furthermore, in August 2019, a smartphone kept in a pants pocket also exploded in China, causing burns to the leg and raising safety concerns.
