Reimbursement of up to 400,000 KRW for Acquisition of Vehicles Registered with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy

"We will refund the acquisition tax for hybrid vehicles."

The acquisition tax reduction benefit for hybrid (combined power) vehicles, which ended at the end of last year, has been extended for two more years until 2024.

The Ulsan City Vehicle Registration Office (Director Kim Jae-i) announced that the Local Tax Special Cases Restriction Act was amended and enforced from the 14th, and starting from the 20th, acquisition tax for hybrid vehicles that were not granted tax reductions due to legislative delays will be refunded.

Even if you acquired a hybrid vehicle earlier this year without the tax reduction benefit, you are eligible for retroactive application and can receive a reduction or refund of acquisition tax up to 400,000 KRW.

Eligible refund recipients are Ulsan citizens who acquired hybrid vehicles between January 1 and March 13, 2023, and the vehicles must meet the criteria for "environmentally friendly vehicles" as announced by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Due to the retroactive application of the amended Local Tax Special Cases Restriction Act, a total of 2,278 Ulsan citizens are eligible for local tax refunds, with the total refund amount reaching 940 million KRW.

The acquisition tax refund will be carried out ex officio by the Ulsan City Vehicle Registration Office without a separate application. However, regional development bonds that must be purchased when acquiring a vehicle are not subject to ex officio refund processing, so taxpayers must prepare the required documents and visit the NongHyup within the Vehicle Registration Office to apply.

If the hybrid vehicle was registered in another region or if the tax reduction application form was not completed, a collective notice will be sent to the eligible recipients, and they can apply by visiting the Ulsan City Vehicle Registration Office in person following the instructions.
