Gumi-si Supports Job Creation and Self-Reliance for Low-Income Residents

A self-support work group called ‘Cafe Clouden,’ responsible for roasting coffee beans and sales, has newly opened in Gumi, Gyeongbuk.

Gumi City (Mayor Kim Jang-ho) held an opening ceremony at 3 p.m. on the 15th, attended by about 20 people including officials from the Gumi Regional Self-Support Center and directors of the Gyeongbuk Metropolitan and Regional Self-Support Centers.

Cafe Clouden, which opened that day, is a self-support project group supported by Gumi City and commissioned and operated by the Gumi Regional Self-Support Center (Director Kim Yoon-jo) to create jobs for low-income residents and help economic independence. It was established with a total budget of 150 million KRW, including 60 million KRW from the metropolitan self-support fund and self-support labor project expenses.

Located in Sagok-dong, Gumi City, this cafe serves as a hub for the Gyeongbuk roasting cafe metropolitan project, aiming to strengthen the competitiveness of its self-developed brand and develop various flavors through roasting.

Roasting and Selling to Become Coffee Experts... Gumi Self-Support Project Group Opens 'Cafe Clauden' The opening ceremony is being held at 'Cafe Clouden,' a self-sufficiency center in the Gumi area.

Unlike existing cafe self-support project groups, Cafe Clouden plans to sell customized, directly roasted coffee and expand its supply network nationwide to generate profits.

Based on roasting expert certificates and experience acquired through participation in the self-support project, the goal is to support the transition to self-support enterprise startups.

Cafe Clouden operates with six self-support workers from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except Mondays, and the profits are accumulated and used as startup funds and independence performance bonuses for the participants.

Kim Yoon-jo, director of the Gumi Regional Self-Support Center, the project executing agency, said, “We will work harder to give dreams and hope to residents participating in self-support.”

Park Kyung-ha, Director of the Social Welfare Bureau, added, “The city will spare no support to help participants succeed in self-support enterprises or startups through the skills and experience learned in the self-support project groups.”

The Gumi Regional Self-Support Center operates 17 project groups, including cafes, franchise restaurants, laundry, and cleaning businesses, providing jobs to over 230 low-income residents of Gumi City to cultivate their self-support capabilities.
