Full-Scale Promotion of Roundabout Installation in Gwangyang Eup Area

Expectations for Improved Residential Conditions and Alleviation of Traffic Inconvenience in the Original Downtown Area

Gwangyang City in Jeollanam-do announced on the 15th that it will hold a resident briefing session for the detailed design service of the ‘Gwangyang-eup Area Road Construction and Roundabout Installation’ at 2 p.m. on the 27th in the main conference room of the Gwangyang-eup Office.

This resident briefing session will cover three projects: ▲road widening and expansion from Wusijang Intersection to the Clock Tower in Gwangyang-eup ▲road construction from Jeil Automobile Workshop to Deokrye Deokjinbom@ section ▲installation of a roundabout at Moksung Jungang-ro Intersection. The session will explain the detailed design contents and overall implementation plans for each project and collect opinions from landowners and related residents.

Among these projects, the Wusijang Intersection road aims to improve the narrow roads in the old downtown area of Gwangyang-eup and alleviate traffic inconvenience around the 5-day market by expanding the current 2-lane road to 4 lanes. The Deokrye Deokjinbom@ section project involves newly constructing a 4-lane road to connect the densely populated apartment complex area in the Deokrye district with the old National Road No. 2, due to a lack of connecting roads.

Additionally, Moksung Jungang-ro suffers from traffic congestion caused by signal delays due to its irregular intersection structure, so a roundabout will be installed within the intersection.

After completing this resident briefing session, the city plans to promptly finalize the detailed design, start compensation for land acquisition in the first half of the year, and actively work to secure the necessary budget to complete the project early.

Furthermore, once this road maintenance project is completed, it is expected to improve residents’ living conditions and enhance traffic convenience by facilitating smooth traffic flow between the old downtown area of Gwangyang-eup and the densely populated apartment complex area in Deokrye.

A city official stated, “We will make every effort to start this project early to improve traffic conditions in the Gwangyang-eup area,” and added, “We ask for the active interest and cooperation of local residents to ensure the smooth progress of the project.”
