Andeokgeun, Head of Trade Headquarters, Engages in Economic Diplomacy in UAE: "Joint Response to Energy Security"

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced that Ahn Deok-geun, the Chief Negotiator for Trade, visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 15th and 16th to conduct economic diplomacy.

On the day, Chief Negotiator Ahn held the '1st Trade and Investment Promotion Framework (TIPF)' meeting with Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, to discuss new trade cooperation agendas. He also held talks with Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, to explore new cooperative achievements in the fields of energy, infrastructure, and investment.

Specifically, he urged the use of cooperation channels between the two countries to jointly review the implementation of achievements worth $6.1 billion, including 48 contracts and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) signed during the state visit of our president to the UAE in January. Additionally, they discussed resolving trade technical barriers (Halal certification), supporting Seoul National University Hospital’s contract activities, and new trade norms in the bio and digital sectors.

Chief Negotiator Ahn then sought ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in energy, infrastructure, and investment, as well as to promote cooperation in hydrogen and renewable energy, during a meeting with Minister Al Mazrouei in Abu Dhabi.

At this meeting, Chief Negotiator Ahn proposed that energy transition sectors such as nuclear power and hydrogen are promising investment areas of mutual interest for both countries, and suggested that the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure work together to achieve mutually beneficial investment outcomes in the future.

The day after his UAE trip, Chief Negotiator Ahn plans to visit the Korea-UAE Business Consultation Hall and attend a business roundtable with companies participating in the '1st Shuttle Economic Cooperation Group.'
