The opening of Daejeon Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital has been postponed from this month to the end of May. The inaugural hospital director will be Professor Son Min-gyun from Chungnam National University Hospital.
On the 15th, Daejeon City held a Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital Operations Committee meeting to decide and announce the hospital's opening schedule and operational plans.
According to the city, the Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital was originally scheduled to be completed by last month and to open this month. However, considering delays in hospital construction, installation of medical systems, staff training, and trial operation periods, the opening has been postponed to the end of May.
The hospital construction is being promoted by Chungnam National University Hospital under the city's commission. Currently, the construction progress rate is 94%, with interior and exterior finishing work underway.
The shortage of medical staff also contributed to the delay in the hospital's opening.
In this regard, the city has changed the recruitment method to continuous hiring of medical personnel. Additionally, including the hospital director, two rehabilitation medicine specialists have been secured so far, and with approval from the Ministry of Health and Welfare, among three public health doctors dispatched for six months, two dentists and visiting specialists from Chungnam National University Hospital's rehabilitation medicine and pediatrics departments will provide outpatient care first.
After opening, the day ward will operate with a maximum capacity of 20 patients for up to six months annually, and the inpatient ward will accommodate up to 50 patients for a maximum of three months. Rehabilitation treatments tailored to each disabled child will be conducted in the hospital's rehabilitation therapy room, physical therapy room, hydrotherapy room, and robot therapy room.
Meanwhile, the city has appointed Professor Son Min-gyun, a rehabilitation medicine specialist at Chungnam National University Hospital, the entrusted institution, as the inaugural director of Daejeon Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital.
Since 2019, Director Son has served as the head of the Public Children's Rehabilitation Hospital construction promotion team, overseeing the hospital's construction process.
